Google Maps has already proven to be a useful navigation tool available for free. However, as more improvements and features make their way to the app, can you really afford to plan a trip without it?
Google Maps has already introduced the feature that allows drivers to avoid toll roads completely during a trip when possible. While these routes may take a little longer, you don’t have to pay the toll fees. Being able to see the difference in the route lengths of a toll road as opposed to a route that bypasses the tolls can make a big difference in your route planning and budget.
Google just announced a new feature that will also show the estimated toll pass prices, adding even more value to the popular navigation app. By checking your route options before traveling, the app will be able to give you the estimated toll prices for the time you’ll be traveling. This is helpful as many toll passes adjust their pricing according to what time of day you travel.
The app will only be able to show an estimated price, as the pass fees at toll gates can also vary according to your chosen payment method. However, even with an estimated price, you’ll still be able to make a better decision between the seemingly faster route or the cheaper one.
This feature can be enabled and disabled in the settings of Google Maps, making it easy to decide if you want to use the feature or not. Also included in the settings is the ability to always avoid toll roads (when possible).
This feature is being rolled out to Android and iOS and will feature approximately 2000 toll roads in the US, India, Indonesia, and Japan. Google assured users that more countries are on their way.
Now we’re wondering if the app will also work towards being able to pay toll fees directly from your device using banking apps. And is this a good idea with banking apps being in more danger?
